Personal Branding: Don’t Lose Focus

There is a lot to think about when it comes to personal branding. From your media strategy to your internet presence to booking speaking events to build credibility… there’s a whole lot to keep straight!

And for that reason, it can be easy to lose focus on the core elements of your brand. This is a significant problem, as you probably know, because focus and repetition are key elements to a powerful brand. Below are four key areas to focus on… take a few moments right now and evaluate how you are doing!

1) Focus on what makes you unique. What makes you different from the crowd? Why do you stand out among your competitors? Why should customers choose to do business with you instead of someone else? These are fundamental questions, and your branding efforts should be constantly addressing them.

2) Focus on the benefits your products or services provide. Ultimately, your customers and clients choose to do business with you because of the benefits and the value that your business provides. As a retirement planner, for instance, your key benefit may be “providing a stress free retirement.” A tax accountant’s key benefit may be “keep more money in your pocket and away from the IRS!” What are the key benefits your business provides? Make them a central focus of your brand!

3) Focus on telling your story. Everyone has their own unique story. Elements of your story include your background, your unique abilities, your particular approach to business. Your story is what makes you unique and what resonates with your audience. So tell your story! Let your audience see where you’re going and how you’re growing.

4) Focus on your customers. Finally and most importantly, remember that it’s all about your customers. It’s easy to lose sight of the fact that, at the end of the day, it’s your customers that write your paycheck each month. Your brand should ultimately be focused on providing the best possible experience to each and every customer.
